Officials pitch scaled-back Lighthouse Project

Long Island's Lighthouse Project may be back on track.

Town of Hempstead officials announced Monday a consultant will be hired to develop a scaled-down version of the building project.

The original project, supported by Islanders owner Charles Wang, called for a revamped Nassau Coliseum, retail stores, offices and residential housing. The Lighthouse Project has been in the works for years, but hit a roadblock when Wang refused to pay for an environmental review.

Wang and the Lighthouse Project could either accept the town?s new plan or walk away. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano says he hopes the developer will approve.
