Business partner murder trial gets under way
Opening arguments were heard Monday in the trial of a man accused of killing his business partner in October 2008.
Prosecutors say Ronald Thornton paid an exotic dancer and her two friends $10,000 to kill James DiMartino, his one-time business partner. Thornton allegedly set up a business meeting with DiMartino at a Commack restaurant, but instead DiMartino was shot in the head and killed, prosecutors say.
In the defense's opening argument, the jury was told that the evidence necessary to convict Thornton doesn't exist.
Monique Randall, the exotic dancer allegedly involved, pleaded guilty to helping arrange DiMartino's murder in a plea deal. She will testify later in the trial.
