Major snowstorm sets sights on Long Island

Long Island is set to be slammed by a major snowstorm after dodging a bullet over the weekend.A winter storm warning is in effect for Long Island from midnight Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bill Korbel says light snow will develop early Wednesday morning and turn to a rain-snow mix during the day. This will turn back to snow mid/late afternoon with heavy snow through the evening and early at night. Between 8-12 inches is likely for the Island, with the worst of the storm expected in Nassau County.

For Long Island town highway departments and LIPA, it?s all hands on deck for Wednesday. Sand and salt trucks were readied Tuesday. Between the wind, ice and sleet, LIPA CEO Kevin Law says the potential for outages is high.

There will also be strong winds and drifting snow, which could create dangerous conditions across Long Island roadways.
