Islip uses technology to maximize road clearing

During Wednesday's snowstorm, the Town of Islip utilized some new technology to track snowplows and road conditions.

News 12 Long Island's Pat Dolan was at the Islip Emergency Operations Center, where high tech equipment is set up to follow the efforts of 270 snowplows along the 1,100 miles of Long Island roads.

Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan says the equipment, which includes a live GPS display, allows officials to make informed decisions based on hourly snowfall rates, wind speeds and the current location of snowplows.
