Newsday: Mangano's home underassessed

The Bethpage home of Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano was underassessed by as much as $25,000, Newsday reports.

The assessor's office apparently missed improvements in Mangano's 14,166-square-feet house, including the installation of a central air conditioning system and a half bathroom, according to Newsday.

That allowed the newly elected county executive to save $500 in taxes this year on his house valued at $682,200.

Mangano's spokesperson says like other county residents, Mangano feels "he's grossly overtaxed."

Since taking office, Mangano has made reforming the county's assessment system his top priority.
