Fire tears through Floral Park home

A man and a woman were taken to the hospital after a fast-moving fire ravaged a Floral Park home Saturday morning, officials say.

Neighbor Sadie Castoro says it was around 10 a.m. when she looked out her window and saw her neighbor's Oak Street home surrounded by thick black smoke.

Fire officials say the unidentified homeowner and her boyfriend were treated at an area hospital for smoke inhalation and are expected to be fine.

According to investigators, the couple was upstairs when they smelled smoke drifting from the kitchen. Lucy Copertino, who lives across the street, says the fire tore through the two-story home in a matter of minutes.
