Roosevelt mom charged in daughter's death

A Roosevelt mother was arrested Sunday night and charged in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

According to police, 20-year-old Shawnta Montgomery, who is 7 months pregnant, pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter.

Officials say Dishawna Montgomery went into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital Friday and later died. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be internal bleeding that resulted from a lacerated liver. Authorities say the autopsy also showed a history of physical abuse.

Montgomery's boyfriend, Benjamin Smith, was also arrested Sunday for an outstanding attempted murder warrant.
