Man hit by multiple cars, killed in Roosevelt

A man walking down Nassau Road early Sunday was hit by several cars and killed, police say.

Friends say 40-year-old Leroy Thornton was walking home from a party around 3 a.m. when he was struck by at least three cars. Only one driver stopped, called police and waited with Thornton until an ambulance arrived.

Authorities say Thornton was pronounced dead at the hospital. Family members and friends created a makeshift memorial for Thornton at the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
