Police nab 5 alleged 'Rim Reapers' in Suffolk

Suffolk police say they have busted a ring responsible for the theft of nearly 300 tires and rims off cars throughout the county.

Investigators say the five suspects that were indicted on numerous charges Thursday had been stealing luxury rims from Smithtown to Riverhead and selling them on eBay for the past two years.

Suspects Darren Scales, Steven Clarke, Hasheem McLaurin, Lahsheem Stewart and Kelvin Mitchell pleaded not guilty to all charges.

"A relative of one of the defendants referred to this group as 'the Rim Reapers,'" Spota says.

Victims of the ?Rim Reapers? say they are ecstatic that Suffolk police have announced the arrests and hope for some restitution.
