Firefighter guilty of murder in Lawrence fire

(AP) - A volunteer New York firefighter has beensubdued after trying to bolt from the courtroom upon his murderconviction for setting a fire that killed four members of a family.

The verdicts against Caleb Lacy were reached Friday, the firstanniversary of the Long Island blaze. He was also convicted ofmanslaughter, arson and reckless endangerment.

After hearing the verdicts, Lacey shook his head, turned fromthe judge and appeared to try an escape. He was subdued almostimmediately by at least a dozen court officers.

The fire in a coin-operated laundry in Lawrence, N.Y., spread toapartments above. It killed 46-year-old Morena Vanegas and three ofher children, ages 9, 13 and 19.

Prosecutors say he set the blaze in hopes of looking like ahero.
