Fatal crash snarls traffic on Sunrise Highway

A fatal accident overnight in Bayport shut down part of Sunrise Highway for the morning commute Monday.

Police say the accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Monday between exits 50 and 51. According to officials, two cars collided, causing one to flip over and the other to burst into flames.

The westbound side of the highway was reopened before 10 a.m. The eastbound side was reopened about an hour later.

Officials say the unidentified driver of the car that rolled over was killed. The driver of the car that caught fire was treated at the hospital.

Authorities have not yet said what caused the accident.
