South Shore jazz legend still behind the kit

Age hasn't slowed the tempo of jazz percussionist and South Shore resident Roy Haynes.

With more than 70 years of experience behind each stroke, Haynes is considered a living legend in the jazz world. Haynes, a two-time Grammy winner, has played with all the giants of jazz - from Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.The octogenarian will celebrate his 85th birthday with a performance at the Blue Note in Manhattan on March 13.

"I try to paint different colors and, you know, make my music," he says.
