Family: Roosevelt man gunned down in Haiti

A Roosevelt man was killed in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti Wednesday while on a goodwill mission to help rebuild his homeland.

The family of Jowel Vieux says the 62-year-old was shot to death by a group of men.

According to his wife Myrlaine, Vieux knew the danger of going to Haiti but wanted to help earthquake victims.

The family members say they are struggling to pay the cost of returning Jowel's body to the U.S. for burial. They do say several state lawmakers are helping them though.

Myrlaine Vieux says she and her husband had hoped to spend their retirement in Haiti.
