Cablevision-Disney dispute threatens TV lineup
ABC-Disney is threatening to pull WABC Channel 7 from Cablevision amid a contract dispute with the cable provider.
ABC has threatened to pull the plug on the channel at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, leaving Cablevision customers in the dark for this weekend?s Academy Awards ceremony.
Cablevision says ABC-Disney is demanding $40 million in new fees.
"It is not fair for ABC-Disney to hold Cablevision customers hostage by forcing them to pay what amounts to a new TV tax,? Cablevision spokesman Charles Schueler says.
Disney says Cablevision charges customers for basic broadcast signals, but doesn?t pass on any of that money to Disney.
WABC executives told News 12 in a statement, "For the past two years we have tried - without success - to reach an agreement with Cablevision to carry ABC7. Why? Because Cablevision's position is that ABC7 is worth little to nothing to its business and its proposed offers have been consistently unreasonable and unrealistic."
Cablevision is the parent company of News 12 Long Island.
