Survey: Alcohol, marijuana use up among teens

Alcohol and marijuana use among teens is on the rise, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.

The organization released statistics Tuesday that 39 percent of teens surveyed in grades nine through 12 admitted to drinking alcohol in the past month. Among the same group surveyed, 25 percent admitted smoking pot in the same time frame.

Several teenagers who are undergoing treatment for substance abuse at the Outreach House in Brentwood say they're not surprised the numbers are rising for the first time in a decade.

"Kids can tell their parents 'I'm just drinking and smoking, I'm not doing heroin,' but what do you think kids doing heroin did before the heroin?" Franco, one teen, says.
