Crews out in full force for pothole repairs

Islip Public Works Commissioner Richard Baker says the number of potholes plaguing the Island is about 10 times the number filled in last year.

According to Baker, the snow and winter weather caused between 700 and 800 potholes in both January and February 2009. At least six highway crews are working throughout Islip to repair the potholes.

Islip officials are hopeful the pricey repair work won't require more money than allotted in the snow removal budget.

Ronkonkoma resident Chris Polinaira says he hit a pothole and has to replace his tire and rim for about $1,000.
