Brentwood meeting addresses recent murders

Brentwood residents participated in a public hearing Wednesday about a string of recent deadly attacks.

On Feb. 27, a man was stabbed to death on Gates Avenue. On Feb. 17, two men were gunned down on Timberline Drive. During the summer, a teenager was shot in the eye while playing basketball.

In an effort to end the violence, police have launched a 10-point plan that includes beefing up patrols, creating a neighborhood watch group, using special anti-gang units and stationing a mobile police van at crime hotspots.

Suffolk County Leg. Ricardo Montano (D-Brentwood), who organized the meeting, says a long-term plan is needed.
