Sound Beach residents complain of stink

Residents in one Sound Beach neighborhood are raising a stink about a backed-up cesspool in front of a two-family home on their block.

Those who live near the Greenlawn Road home say the cesspool has been overflowing down the streets and releasing a foul odor for a year. They blame the landlord of the rental home, George Portelos.

Portelos tells News 12 Long Island the problem isn't coming from his house. However, a Suffolk County Health Department investigation found sewage from his property is being discharged into the ground.

Suffolk gave Portelos until the end of Friday to repair the problem or face a hearing and possible fines.
