Man struck and killed by LIRR train in Mineola
A man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Mineola Monday, causing delays on several branches during the evening rush hour.
There is no word on the man's identity, but LIRR officials say he leaned into the side of the train as it was departing, fell to the platform and hit his head on the moving train.
Service on the Oyster Bay, Huntington/Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches was suspended as police responded to the scene. Delays on those branches were resolved within hours.
