Police: 5 arrested in Hempstead H.S. fight

Police say five people were arrested Tuesday evening in connection to a student brawl at Hempstead High School.

Four of the people arrested are over the age of 16 and will be handled by the Nassau County Police Department. The fifth is a juvenile and will be handled by Hempstead Village police.

Some students have blamed the Monday fight on tensions between African-American and Hispanic students. Cell phone video of the brawl shows students fighting and running in the hallways.

School district officials say nine students were injured in the fight.

Meanwhile, security was heightened Tuesday, a day after the fight.
