Charges filed in deadly Northport truck crash

A sanitation truck driver was charged with criminally negligent homicide Wednesday in connection with a 2009 crash that killed a Fort Salonga woman.

Last summer, a Jet Sanitation truck flipped over on Bread and Cheese Hollow Road in Northport and crushed the car of 56-year-old Deborah Chevalier, killing her. Authorities say the truck was overloaded and had bad brakes.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says a $25 brake part would have prevented the crash, but the 12-count indictment says the company adjusted a faulty part rather than replacing it.

Both the driver, Robert Moore, and the owner of the truck who was also charged, pleaded not guilty.
