Long Islanders pessimistic about home prices

Most Long Island residents say home prices will stay the same or decrease in the next year, according to a poll done by News 12 Long Island and Hofstra University.

According to that poll, 45 percent believe prices will stay the same and 23 percent say prices will decrease. Only 19 percent think home prices will increase and 5 percent say they will increase steeply.

Nassau home prices are up 8.4 percent from this time last year, according to the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island. However, many experts say it is too soon to tell if that trend will continue.
