Brentwood prays for end to violence
The Brentwood community held a prayer vigil Monday after a string of fatal shootings and stabbings that have plagued the area.
Residents met at Timberline Park, where a teen was shot and wounded last summer. Violence has claimed six lives in the past six months. Community leaders blame street gangs for the violence.
Suffolk police have launched a 10-point plan aimed at stemming violence in the area. Residents have also formed neighborhood watch groups and after-school programs.
?The community needs to come out,? Suffolk County Leg. Ricardo Montano (D-Brentwood) says. ??they need to feel safe and be able to contact the police department and let them know what's going on.?
