LI teachers worry about looming budget cuts

Teachers in the Brentwood School District are bracing themselves for what the state?s education budget cuts could possibly mean for their futures.

Brentwood?s superintendent recently released a memo to the district?s 1,400 teachers detailing an estimated $37 million cut in the budget.

The cut could force the layoffs of between 150 and 260 teachers.

Brentwood?s Teacher?s Union says that although it agrees that letting some teachers go is inevitable, members shouldn?t bare all the job losses.

However, nothing can be finalized until the state passes the budget.
