1 dead, 2 hurt after car crashes into home

A 28-year-old Bellmore man was killed after his car crashed into a Garden City Park home Thursday morning.

Police say the crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on 5th Avenue. According to authorities, the car was speeding and failed to stop at a stop sign before it slammed into the home of Annette Giudice, landing in the basement.

Investigators say the driver, Jonathan Leiz, was killed on impact. His two passengers, both men in their 20s, were taken to Winthrop Hospital in critical condition.

The homeowner and her son were not hurt.

Leiz's mother says her son recently stopped taking prescribed medication and may have been suffering from emotional problems.
