Exec. Levy set to launch GOP bid for governor

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is in Albany Friday, where he is expected to announce he's running for governor as a Republican.

The longtime Democrat is expected to seek the nominations of the Republican and Conservative parties for the fall election. According to the state Republican vice-chair, Levy is an appealing conservative Democrat who has been in the wrong party for years.

Former Long Island Congressman, and Republican candidate for governor, Rick Lazio says Levy is an outsider who's trying to hijack his party.

Some political experts say Levy isn't likely to lose voters by switching parties because the electorate is frustrated with both federal and state officials, regardless of what party they belong to.
