Exec. Levy launches GOP bid for governor
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy has announced that he is switching parties to run for governor.
Speaking in Albany Friday, the longtime Democrat said he will seek the Republican Party's nomination for the November election.
Levy vowed to pull the state from the brink of financial ruin by restoring leadership in Albany.
"If you want someone to really shake the foundation of this place," Levy said. "You need someone with that plan who has the backbone to say it, 'right now, this is the tough medicine that we need for this state.'"
Former Long Island Republican Congressman Rick Lazio has been running for the nomination since last year.
