LI couple locked in tug-of-war over kids

A Riverhead father has found himself in an international custody battle with his estranged wife who allegedly abducted their children.

Michael Schroeder says in January, his wife Andrea separated from him during a family vacation in her native Costa Rica and took away their 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. The woman then filed an order of protection against Schroeder.

Schroeder filed for help under the Hague Convention, which mandates that a custody hearing must take place where the children normally live.

Schroeder says he's flying to Costa Rica next week to fight the order of protection and file a petition for visitation with his children.
