NY Conservative Party taps Lazio over Levy

The New York Conservative Party granted its endorsement Saturday to former Congressman Rick Lazio over Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy.

The announcement came just one day after Levy, a long-time Democrat, switched parties to run for governor on the Republican ticket.

Despite the setback, Levy remains in the race. However, lack of the Conservative endorsement could make it more difficult for Levy to win the GOP nomination since no Republican has ever won a gubernatorial election in New York without the Conservative Party's support.

Whoever wins in the Republican primary will most likely face off against Democratic Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who still hasn't officially announced he's running.
