Unknown stink investigated in Valley Stream

Officials are still trying to figure out what caused the stink that sickened sanitation workers in Valley Stream Monday.

Officials say sanitation workers were doing their morning rounds when white vapory fumes started out pouring of their garbage truck.

Hazmat crews descended on the truck and spent hours sampling the garbage for toxins. All the tests were negative.

The sanitation workers were all taken to the hospital and are doing OK. One reported a burning feeling in his throat.

Sanitation officials remind residents not to throw out any potentially toxic materials, but to call their town or county to have it removed.
