Owner: Tenant rented house out to stranger

A Hempstead homeowner says a tenant leased his house out to someone else, then disappeared.

Leslie Stanley says he began leasing out his four-bedroom Hempstead home last year when he moved to Atlanta. However, when he went to inquire about missed rent payments, Stanley says he found the locks changed.

According to Stanley, a renter he had never met came to the door and said she found the home on Craig's List. The new renter told Stanley that the person she rented from had taken her money and disappeared in February.

Stanley says he's still paying the mortgage on the home and was told to file a suit in landlord-tenant court by the Hempstead Village attorney.
