Lazio: If governor, I won't raise taxes

Gubernatorial candidate and former Rep. Rick Lazio made a bold promise Wednesday. He says he will veto or oppose any effort to increase taxes as governor.

Lazio made the statement alongside two of his political heavyweight supporters, Nassau?s Republican Party Chairman Joe Mondello and New York?s Conservative Party Chair Michael Long.

Mondello says Nassau is Lazio country. Meanwhile, Suffolk Republicans have embraced County Executive Steve Levy, who has switched parties to enter the race.

?I do not believe Steve Levy is going to be able to mount that kind of campaign to stop the momentum that Rick Lazio now has,? Long says.
