LI couple facing charges for Jell-O tampering

(AP) - A Suffolk County husband and wife are facing charges of tampering in connection to packages of Jell-Opudding mix that were found to contain salt and sand.

Suffolk County police arrested 68-year-old Alexander Clement and64-year-old Christine Clement on Sunday. The East Northportresidents are facing multiple counts of petit larceny and tamperingwith a consumer product.

Authorities said Christine Clement bought the boxes from fourLong Island stores, removed the contents, and refilled them with amix of salt and sand. The boxes were then returned for a refund. Police said there was no indication of any intent to harmanyone, only to get the pudding mix without having to pay for it. The Clements will be arraigned at a later date. They did notreturn a call seeking comment.
