State legislature considers school pesticide ban

The New York State Legislature is considering a bill to ban the use of pesticides on school grounds.

On Long Island, the proposed law has the support of many parents who are worried about their children's safety on school playing fields. However, a lobbying group representing pesticide companies says the ban is not scientifically based.

According to the group, the pesticides have gone through rigorous testing by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Environmentalists say the bill has support in the Assembly, but they're unsure if it will hold up in the Senate.
