Riverhead may relocate free lunch program

The Town of Riverhead is looking to move the location of a free lunch program after receiving complaints it attracts an undesirable crowd.

The Open Arms lunch program operates out of the Riverhead train station. Dozens of Long Island residents in need say they rely on it daily.

Riverhead Town Councilman John Dunleavy says business owners have complained about people loitering and getting into trouble at the train station.

Town officials want to move the program 6 miles away to Calverton. However, the alternate location is largely inaccessible by bus.

Dunleavy says the town will meet in two weeks to discuss the future of the lunch program.
