Family says LI Marine's death was preventable

A Marine from Bellmore who died following an incident at Camp Lejeune last week was buried Friday.

Lance Cpl. Libardo Anthony Jimenez?s family says the 21-year-old?s death was preventable. Jimenez boxed at the North Carolina base. In February, he was hospitalized after being hit in the head while sparring, his family says.

A month later, having returned to the ring, he collapsed and stopped breathing after complaining of a headache.

Jimenez?s mother Penny Palmer says her son told her that doctors cleared him to continue fighting.

Family members say they want to make sure Jimenez received proper medical attention before being allowed back in the ring. The military is investigating his death.
