Judge: Conroy can't blame friend in testimony

? In court Wednesday, a judge rejected a bid by Jeffrey Conroy?s defense attorney that would allow the Patchogue teen to testify under particular circumstances.

Jeffrey Conroy is accused in the 2008 stabbing of immigrant Marcelo Lucero in Patchogue. He is charged with murder and manslaughter as a hate crime.

According to the defense, Conroy would have testified that Christopher Overton, one of the other teens arrested in the case, stabbed Lucero. Overton asked Conroy to take the knife from him because he was already facing charges for another deadly crime, the defense would have argued. The defense attorney also requested Conroy testify without the jury present. The judge said there is no evidence that Overton stabbed Lucero. He ruled that if Conroy does take the stand, he can?t blame Overton.
