Riders file lawsuit to save Able-Ride program
? A group of disabled Long Island Bus riders announced a class-action lawsuit against the MTA Wednesday in an attempt to save the Able-Ride program.
The MTA plans to cut $1.2 million from the program in Nassau County. Officials say the cuts would mean no more door-to-door service for the disabled.
Aaron Liebowitz, executive director of Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, says the cuts "?would disproportionately affect people with disabilities, would restrict their lives, take away their independence and profoundly change the rest of their lives."
Starting Monday, those who use the service will be forced to make it to regular bus stops.
A hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for Friday in Central Islip.
