Jury seating under way in Bird murder trial

The process of seating a jury is under way in the Joanna Bird murder case.

Leonardo Valdez-Cruz is accused of fatally stabbing Bird, of New Cassel, inside her home last March. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Bird?s family believes police and prosecutors are also responsible for her death and have brought a lawsuit against both parties. The family says police should have arrested Valdez-Cruz for violating an order of protection.

If convicted, Valdez-Cruz could face life in prison without parole.
