Mom, daughter killed in Bethpage crash

Police are investigating what caused a tractor-trailer to slam into a car, killing a mother and her young daughter Wednesday night.

Witnesses say the car carrying the 44-year-old mom and her 11-year-old daughter was in the middle of the intersection, turning on to Route 107 when a truck ran a red light and hit it and other cars.

Firefighters needed to use the Jaws of Life to get the mother and daughter out of the crushed car. They were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead.
