Attempt to sedate whale fails

According to Newsday, an attempt to sedate a humpback whale stranded on an East Hampton beach in order to euthanize it failed earlier yesterday.

Newsday says scientists shot a dart of solution into the whale after 1 a.m. yesterday. When that did not immediately work, another dart of solution was shot into the whale before 2 a.m.

The whale was still alive yesterday morning. Experts say they are not sure how the attempts could have failed and aren't sure what to do next.

The whale, about 25 feet long, was discovered Tuesday morning.
