Proposed law to ban parking on front lawns

A proposed law in the Town of Islip would ban parking on front lawns.

Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt says it is part of her effort to make the town a better place to live. She says "it's about time that we call for an end to this type of eyesore and safety hazard here in Islip."

The law would also limit the number of cars that can be parked overnight. A single-family home would be allowed one car per bedroom, plus an additional car.

Bergin Weichbrodt also says it's a safety concern because children playing outside are often not visible to passing motorists.

A public hearing on the proposal is expected in the next few weeks.
