LI state senator pushes for fake marijuana ban

State Sen. John Flanagan (R-East Northport) has introduced a bill that would ban the sale of synthetic marijuana in New York.

Synthetic marijuana, which goes by several names, is sold in stores across the state.

Flanagan and advocates of the bill say the artificial drug is just as dangerous as the real one.

The substance is included on the Drug Enforcement Administration's list of drugs and chemicals of concern. Kansas is the only state that has approved a ban. There is legislation pending in several other states.

Flanagan hopes to have his bill signed into law by the end of the spring.
