Weekend rail work a headache for LIRR riders

Long Island Rail Road riders are being told to expect disruptions the next two weekends as major track work is being done on two of the rail?s busiest branches.

Crews are lifting and leveling the train tracks on the Hempstead and Port Jefferson lines to smooth out the ride for passengers.

On the Hempstead branch, buses will replace trains between Jamaica and eastern train stations. Riders are being told to add about 30 minutes to their typical travel time.

On the Huntington/Port Jefferson branch, trains will run hourly between New Hyde Park and Huntington. They will run every two hours between Huntington and Port Jefferson.

Riders are being urged to use other branches.
