Suffolk teen fights back against armed burglar

A North Lindenhurst teen fought back against an armed burglar at a home on North Jefferson Avenue Sunday night.

Police say 17-year-old Stephen Ercolino saw a man walking out of his house carrying a locked metal cashbox that belonged to his uncle.

According to police, the teen fought with the thief until the suspect pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the ground. Cops say Ercolino backed away and the gunman ran off, scooping up some of the cash that had fallen from the box.

Police say they have not yet made any arrests.
