Students protest Stony Brook U. campus closure

Hundreds of Stony Brook University students marched yesterday to protest a plan to close most of the school?s Southampton campus.

The university plans to shut down many of the buildings by fall and suspend admissions for new undergraduate students at the campus.

University President Dr. Samuel Stanley says he has no choice because of the $55 million cut in state aid over the past two years.

Students marched on Route 25A from Rocky Point to the university?s main campus in Stony Brook. They brought letters of protest to the college?s president.

Under the plan, students will have to transition to the main campus.
