Police: 2 boys hit by car in Central Islip

Police say two boys were injured, one critically, when they were hit by a cab in Central Islip yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses tell News 12 Long Island that Mario Quintanilla, 13, and Kevin Amaya, 11, were walking home from Charles Mulligan Intermediate School and stopped off at a mini-mart for candy. According to the witnesses, the boys then ran across Lowell Avenue and were struck by a Lincoln Town Car.

The driver, Lynval Cameron, of Bay Shore, was shaken from the crash. He says the boys darted out in front of him.

The mini-mart owner says Cameron was speeding.

Quintanilla sustained head injuries and Amaya suffered a broken arm, leg and injuries to his face.

Police say no charges have been filed.
