Syosset native dedicates life to Ethiopian kids
More than 20 years ago, Syosset native Dr. Rick Hodes opted to leave his suburban life and dedicate it to saving the lives of sick children in Ethiopia.
Known as Ethiopia's "Father Theresa," Dr. Hodes has treated thousands of kids in Ethiopia. He says seeing children return from life-saving surgery is like going to heaven.
There are around 2,000 doctors in the country, which is home to about 82 million people.
Dr. Hodes' philanthropic work is now the subject of a book and a documentary that will debut tomorrow on HBO.
