Parents: Orthodontist's bankruptcy is crooked

Dozens of parents are crying foul after they say an East Northport orthodontist walked away from uncompleted work on their children.

The parents say Dr. Stuart Balaban declared bankruptcy in December, but didn?t stop practicing until recently.

Hofstra University finance professor Andrew Spieler says it will be very difficult for patients to get their money back, saying the burden is on the consumer.

Balaban's attorney says the doctor has done nothing criminal. However, none of the dental societies News 12 Long Island contacted will do anything to help Balaban?s patients.

The New York State Office of Professions says Balaban has had other violations, but would not share details.
