LI girl holds bone marrow drive in Brentwood

A bone marrow drive organized by a 7-year-old girl with leukemia was held today at the Brentwood school district?s administrative building.

Jackie Poeggel was first diagnosed with leukemia three years ago. The Lindenhurst girl had a stem cell transplant in 2008 and her disease is in remission.

The goal of the drive is to create a bone marrow registry for minorities. Poeggel says if there were a bone marrow bank for minorities, she might have found her match faster.
